2nd Baby Scaife Gender Reveal!!!!

Well looks like our predictions were spot on, all signs point to a baby girl!!!

After 2 separate ultrasounds by 2 different people.. Lots of running in place, coughing, jumping jacks, sneezing.. We were able to confirm that our sweet little loves is a girl!!

We were able to have a quick gender reveal for both sides of the family.. Both my sister and sil didn't want to wait.. They had to know right away!!!

My mom was the first to know since she was watching Landon. She didn't want to wait for my dad and she wore pink because she had a feeling...

Then we facetimed my Inlaws and had my sil pick up pink flowers and deliver them. They were so so excited!

My dad rushed home from work so we could reveal. He did call 2 times to check and see if we had results.

After the parents found out, we texted the siblings & nieces. We then sent out an email/text to aunts & uncles.. Waited for about 3 hours before we revealed via Instagram & Facebook.

We are beyond excited that our 2nd baby is a girl!!!

Next up, picking names & planning her nursery!

Baby #2 gender predictor

We hope to find out baby's gender next week, I thought if would fun to test out some old wivestales.

I did this with Landon & it came out true so I'm very interested in seeing if we are correct with baby #2!

We used the same Chinese predictor test on the bump.. It says girl..

We bought an over the counter gender prediction pee test... Girl.

Baby's heartbeat above or below 140... Girl

Morning sickness.. Girl

Cravings.. Sweet or salty.. In conclusive because I don't like anything. Lol

Moody.. Happy or moody.. This week I'm moody so girl.

Skin.. I feel like my skin isn't as pretty as usual.. Girl.

I've had 10 family members predict girl... 1 said boy.. because they wanted me to have more than 2 kids.

I'm totally not leaning towards girl.. I'm happy either way. It's just strange that all the signs leads to girl and my current pregnancy is completely opposite of Landon's.

We have an ultrasound next Friday, hopefully we find out if baby #2 is a boy or girl!

Miss Anything? I miss my last pregnancy where I craved food.

How far along? 13 weeks 4 days

Total weight gain/loss: at the Dr, none. at home 2 lbs! I'll take it! My OB told us we need to start gaining weight and encouraged my husband to let me eat what I need... ahem.. "Mc Donalds is good for her, let her eat Mc Donalds". lol

Maternity clothes?  I do LOVE my liz lange maternity Tees! I also am obsessed with my new Gap maternity leggings.. they're thicker, softer and so comfy! other than that... I'm in regular clothes.. my jeans are getting a little too snug to button so we're using the hairband trick.

Stretch marks? No, started using coconut oil, it keeps me from going dry.

Sleep: no sleep. I'm so tired yet wide awake.

Total weight gain/loss: So far, none. I find out on tuesday if that changes!

Maternity clothes? Gap was having an additional 30% sale, I picked up some T-shirts ($3-5!!), but I'm still wearing regular clothes.

Stretch marks? No, started using coconut oil, it keeps me from going dry.

Sleep: Exhausted, Landon's going through a sleep regression. He's been very talkative in his sleep, lots of tossing and turning AND he likes to wake up around 3 Am and cry until we sit with him. This mama is soOOOOo tired!

Best moment this week: I think the night nausea is starting to fade!!

Miss Anything? Sleep and food.. I have almost zero appetite.

Movement: I'm still feeling some nudging and swirling. It makes me happy!

Food cravings: I wish!! I like oranges, pears, and grapes. currently need a little cola to help ease the nausea. I do like Burger Kings original chicken sandwich. Anything with rice makes me happy. I can eat cooked sushi every day.

Anything making you queasy or sick: the thought of eating my own cooking makes me feel nervous. I cook for Landon and my husband to eat everyday but I don't want to eat it. Touching raw meat makes me want to cry.

Have you started to show yet: yes. theres a bulge.

Gender: not sure yet. Had a dream it was a boy.

Labor Signs: none.

Belly Button in or out? IN.

11 Weeks... Our 2nd Baby

How far along? 11 weeks

Total weight gain/loss: I started this pregnancy at 118. I've had 4 appointments where I've gained a few and lost a few but on Tuesday, I'm still at 118 lbs. I'm sure the weight will pile on in a few weeks.

Maternity clothes? Yes and NO. I can't lie, I never stopped wearing my Liz Lange maternity shirts, but other than that, still in normal clothes.

Stretch marks? No- but I've been using coco butter body spray and lotion. I'm so dry. This kid is sucking the moisture out of my skin. its terrible.

Sleep: I'm so tired, but who can sleep with a toddler running around?? Sometimes I will nap when he naps.

Best moment this week: We had an ultrasound and saw the baby. We are were at 10 week but measured 12 weeks 6 days. It was very active. I even told my OB that I felt it at night, he said it wasn't possible until we saw the ultrasound.. he's now a believer.

Miss Anything? The sleep I got with my my first pregnancy...

Movement: Yes, I think.

Food cravings: Not really. I like crisp fresh grapes... oranges, salad, and I went on an obsessive search for chili cheese burritos from taco bell. My husband was able to bring it home once.. just once. luckily I'm over it!

Anything making you queasy or sick: I have severe nausea from 4pm-midnight. It's mind numbing. I get dizzy and light headed. I started using PSI bands (like sea bands but for pregnancy) and I feel better. I didn't get this with my first pregnancy its overwhelming.

Have you started to show yet: I do feel a little chunky.

Gender: not sure yet.

Labor Signs: none.

Belly Button in or out? IN.

Wedding rings on or off? on

Happy or Moody most of the time: HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY!

Looking forward to: We finally got to see my mom this weekend after 6 weeks. she finished her last 2 rounds of chemo, with that and a round of colds between my mom, dad then Landon caught a bug.. we really couldn't visit her until we made sure everyone was in tip top shape.  Also my brother and his wife are having a gender reveal at dinner- We've been waiting for weeks to find out. So excited!

Teething Pacifier Pops

We have a teething baby... He is going nuts! Sometimes our amber necklace can only go so far, so a few months ago, I decided to make him some popsicles!

He loves this! It keeps him super busy for about 15-20 minutes, soothes his gums and super nutritious.

So wether or not you're using breastmilk or formula.. or a fruit smoothie, this is super easy to make.

I fill his bottle cap with some milk, throw in a pacifier and pop it in the freezer over night.

once you're ready to use one, run it under some water for a few seconds to loosen the ice cube.. pop it out and it looks like this:

hand it to your teething babe and let him enjoy!

he loves it! he gets super excited when frees his pacifier!

this cube makes about 1oz of breast milk so its a great snack!

Enjoy!

What Landon Wore

Went out to lunch last week.. He's gotta look awesome!

I have to be careful when Landon looks this cute- it's flu season and we have lots of people stopping to say hi.

I'm constantly telling people not to touch my baby!

Peas Please!!

Well.. someone is ready to eat!!

I didn't think I would be the mom to make food, but then again, I didn't think I would be the mom to breastfeed either... Somehow, it happened, and I'm excited... SUPER excited to do it!

So I'm branching out with a new adventure.. making baby food! It will be trial an error- but here we go!

We started with EarthBest organic brown rice cereal- it instantly caused him to back up and have constipation- which then interrupted our potty training... btw, baby food takes baby poop to a whole different level! (baby steps.. baby steps!)

After a week, we took a break from eating "solids" and tried to get him back to a regular bathroom schedule!

At week 3, we tried EarthBest Organic Oatmeal.. which kept him regular and he loved it!!

now onto the next transition.. deciding what to start with. Some people say sweet potatoes, avocado, or bananas... I started with Peas... because I decided greens first.

and I decided to make it in bulk to freeze and feed... here we go!!

what you need:
- food processor
- 2 bags of frozen organic peas
- water (baby breeza delegates how much water to put in on its own)
- spatula
- food storage containers, ice cube maker, etc

Start with deciding which food processor to commit too...

we decided on the baby breeza! I did make my husband purchase the baby breeza, baby beba, and baby bullet.. then I sat there and opened it all- stared at it for a few days and really thought about the process and what I needed my food processor to do for me.. packed up all the others and returned them.

I wanted my food processor to be a 1 stop shop. the baby breeza- you throw in the veggies and just press a button and it steams, blends, and purees!! after that you just pour it in the ice cubes and freeze!

I poured 1 pack of frozen organic Peas into the processor, selected "Sweet Peas", pressed steam and blend, and walked away for 20 minutes...

I let the puree cool- poured it into some silicone ice cube makers and set them in the freezer to store... (side note: I bought these ice cube makers at william somoma- they are not 1oz cubes- which kinda bummed me out.. I will get these instead.

the next morning- I popped them out and threw them into a labeled ziplock bag- "sweet peas" and date. I plan on defrosting by throwing 1 cube into a little bowl and setting it in hot water to heat (we are a anti-microwave since blogging this study about the affects of microwaving foods: here

Soooo... Let him eat PEAS!!!

this face has no idea what's coming...

still has a smile because I'm sure he thinks he's getting oatmeal...

1 spoonful...

he didn't LOVE it- but he didn't HATE it either.. he took about 10 spoonfuls before losing interest!

NO MORE PEAS.. NO MORE pictures!! he was done.

check out our video of Landon eating peas. lol

Surviving the first few nights... days and weeks.

Landon's officially 2 weeks!! Yes we survived 2 weeks. I have no idea how people don't kill themselves or each other after just a few days, more so, how on earth do people go on to have 2...3..4 kids.

Now, I have a really good baby. I mean REALLY good baby. He doesn't really cry, he's pretty laid back. and he's pretty relaxed, yet the first few days after we were discharged from the hospital... I had an overwhelming feeling.

I assume its because he was 4 weeks early... and I didn't have much ready for him.

So here is my recipe for surviving the first few nights..

1. have a support system... which should include spouse, parents, cousins, aunts, friend.. neighbor.. just anyone that can come to make sure you don't blow your brains out. We didn't have anything set up for Landon in our room, so after we arrived home- My parents came over and put together our pack n play, moved some furniture around, helped us set up bottles, cook dinner for us, My parents were MY rock on our first night. Also, make sure if you're particular about how things are done, show your husband MONTHS & MONTHS (if not years) in advanced how to do stuff. My husband has been doing laundry and dishes for years so he naturally picked up how to clean, sterilize and prep bottles and the breast pump items. its VERY HELPFUL!

2. learn how to swaddle... swaddle that baby until its tight... first night with Landon, I was sOOOooOOo overwhelmed and tired that no matter how I swaddled him, he kept getting out... not to mention, We went through 20 different swaddle blankets to get him to sleep. he was a houdini when it came to getting out of the swaddle and he was the king to peeing all over us. Daddy's, please focus on changing diapers. We went through 1 pack of diapers the first night lol. Diaper fast & furious until you master that shit!

3. Be prepared to be thrown a curve ball and take plenty of notes and PAY CLOSE ATTENTION to what the nurses say!!! About 8 hours before we were discharged, we were informed that Landon wasn't getting any breast milk yet. our feeding plan went out the window when they made my husband a list of items to purchase before my discharge. we got a quick lesson on how to use our breast pump, which bottles to buy, which formula to buy, how to clean the pump items, how to clean bottles etc... I mean, I was so deliriously tired I feel blessed that my husband caught on quick. My poor husband's job was to do EVERYTHING and my job was to just breast feed him for 15 minutes on both sides, feed him 1 ounce of formula, pump for 15 minutes on both sides. talk about 1 hour of my life down the drain every 2 hours. Luckily after the second night home, My milk supply came in and he started to reject formula! woohoo!

4. try not to kill one another.. and embrace help. Our in-laws arrived a day after we came home from the hospital. they basically took over laundry, dishes, and went around fixing up the house and making it more handy for us. My Father in-law is a handy man. he really checked every inch of our house to help us move faster.. example: Installing a door stop in our garage so we can keep the door propped when we need too. My mother cooked meals for me EVERYDAY. which was super helpful. and my sister came by everyday the first week to help us function and mainly to hold her nephew while I napped.

5. get plenty of sleep... and NAP when baby NAPS. I've been hearing this statement for months. and its so TRUE. mid afternoon naps are very helpful because it helps me wake up in the middle of the night to feed my baby. without an afternoon nap, I start to function like a zombie. I get emotional, moody, want to stab people... etc.

So here is the fun part. Items that you will need (Maybe)...

we used our Medela Breast Pump from day 2 until our lactation consultant told me I could stop pumping. We received extra compartments for our pump at the hospital and it was very helpful! You can also rent one at the hospital and it cost $80 a month.. but after 3 months, you can already own the little portable pump!

Since we had to supplement 1oz of formula with every feeding, we opted for these Breastflow bottles. They're easier to clean than dr.Browns and they're "Slow flow" nipples so they work great to transition him from breast to bottle and back to breast. Also, when I started to actually pump milk, the medela bottles were also slow flow. Luckily, he is such an easy going guy, Bottles changes don't really bother him!

The Belly Bandit.. pretty amazing. between breast feeding and this little sucker, My belly went from Bulging to minimal in about 2 weeks! I still have some work to do, but I'll take all the help I can get! You want to get it true to size (from pre-birth). I got a small at first I couldn't close it, but then I realized, if I had someone to help me strap it in, it fit nicely. Now it closes all the way!

These are A MUST have if you're breast feeding... because before you know it, you've got 2 giant WATERMARKS on your tank top. before I got a chance to purchase these, I had to change my top 5-6 times a day. lol.

I love our Pack'n Play! Its the S1 by Safety 1st Satellite Premier Playard - Pegasus. It has a little night light and storage space. We opted for the pack'n play over a basinet.

Lastly, these swaddle blankets from aiden and anais are pretty awesome. We also have a more affordable version from summer infant. It functions just the same. Since we have dogs, we use it to lay out on the couch and stuff before we lay the baby down. it keeps him fur free, even though our pups are hypo-allergenic and they don't shed. it gives my parents peace of mind.

BTW- I love being a mommy!! he is my everything and now that he's here, I can't imagine life without him!

Too Big and Ready to POP... My End of the Month Re-Cap

So, Basically, I'm 89% completely dependent on my husband. I'm not ashamed to ask him for his help- that's why I married him right?

His current role is now:

Husband
caretaker
food runner/ delivery boy
underwear and pants putter on-er... lol
lotion latherer
pick upper person if I drop anything on the floor...
shopping bag carrier
purse carrier
helper in & out of bed person...
lets not forget, weekly photographer (he's available if anyone else needs an amazing belly photographer)...

I'm actually exhausted for him- by just listing these... for some reason, when I get into my car for work, I'm completely normal and functioning and anytime before and after I press that garage door button... I am 100% glued to him.. at the hips.

Anyone else have a husband who suffers from ALL this non-sense? I'm sure he's counting the days where this baby pops out.. but He understands he's has at least 2 months post baby to cater to me as well. He should've taken my Mothers offer... (to send me to her house (3 minutes away) for a month.)

So.. Let's do some catching up.

a few weeks ago, we decided to venture out and try a local hiking spot. it's 4 miles from our house.. and another 4 miles of off roading to get to the hike... a little scary.. but our goal was to get there and hike up to see a waterfall.

Mission failed for a few reasons.. first, by the time we got there and parked, i was exhausted. about 1/4 mile in, I had to PEE really bad... then we had to cross all these streams where it was pretty slippery so we started to get nervous... about 1/2 mile in, I got SUPER HUNGRY... lol. then We ran into these elderly ladies and they suggested we turn around. lol. But here are some photos.

Swimming lessons for Maddox has gone VERY WELL! He loves being in the pool. Especially if I'm in it. He'll sit on the steps for awhile and then jump onto my husbands lap. they float lazily together..

Over Memorial Day weekend, we took a drive down to LaJolla, CA to walk around, shop, eat and relax.
It was a beautiful weekend too!

Lastly, Puppy Training...

So we've got them pretty well trained. my next step is possibly leash/stroller training. But here are photos of them...

No puppies on the stairs while I go up and down... they have to wait until its clear.

No puppies in the Kitchen or Breakfast nook when we're eating.. I did this because when Landon starts throwing food on the floor, I don't want them running in, gobbling it up and getting tummy aches. This works very well, anytime they step foot in the Kitchen, we say "NO. OUT." and point our fingers, they will 98% of the time listen... unless we have guest.

...

NO Puppies in the Nursery... same rule applies as the kitchen and it works very well. lol. a little pitiful at times, Leiah doesn't even bother, but maddox hates it.

That's Pretty much it for the last half of May. I can't believe its already over and my last month of pregnancy begins.

xoxo

Anna
